The Secularization Of Spirit

By Andrea Pronzati

This October, for the first time in Italy’s history, the number of people who do not attend religious practices have exceeded the number of practising Christians. The project deals with this theme, which gradually overturned the widespread religious practice in Italy in the last ten years.

Metaphor used:

The holy card fully represents the idea of faith. The exemplary idea to be translated is the concept of separation. By assigning the idea of “sacred” to the sacred figure, and the idea of “secular” to the frame, the process of secularization was metaphorized through the narrowing of the holy iconography.

Intended Meaning:

The intention is to show clearly and irrefutably the numbers related to this reversal, which affects a milestone on the secular path of religion in Italy. The structure of the exhibition is also useful to analyze the "religious trend" within the Politecnico di Milano.
