Fuel for the body

By Andrea Elena Febres Medina

Venezuela has been gripped by years of financial strife. Hyperinflation has reached a devastating level, leading to harsh consequences on the population. People are living a paradoxical situation, where gasoline is free while food is not even affordable: gasoline becomes the only fuel for the body.

Metaphor used:

The main metaphor used is seeing gasoline as food, since it’s the only item containing calories that people can purchase easily in Venezuela. This concept, of course, is an extremisation of reality.

Intended Meaning:

The aim of the video is giving the user a glimpse of what living in these conditions means, conditions that are not considered as normal but that are now part of the everyday life.
