Four exclamation marks

By Giuseppe Defilippis

The effect of notifications on our daily lives is transposed in reading the explanation of the installation. The text is simple, but reading is made difficult by the presence of circles arranged according to a frequency equal to the number of notifications received within a 30-minute time frame and with a size proproportional to the time lost for each one

Metaphor used:

The notification on the screen becomes visible and prevents reading the text. How many times has it happened to us that we want to focus on something but are constantly distracted by someone who keeps calling us calling for our attention?

Intended Meaning:

We receive an average of 400 notifcations per day on our smartphone. The constant  flurry of phone vibes is di icult to ignore. We are charged by their ddopamine effect and we feel connected to the world. What is the result? We lose our attention to reality. We don't listen to those who are talking to us, we can't watch a movie without getting distracted, we study in a superficial way. We know the negative effects of overconnection but do nothing to prevent it. Why?
